Hydrowood Blackwood & Tasmanian Oak, combined with electronics.
Size
1700mm high x 1000mm wide x 550mm deep
Description
“I created The Pieman Chest of Drawers to showcase several Hydrowood species, reclaimed from the depths of Lake Pieman in Tasmania.
The darker stained Tasmanian Oak background represents the lake’s dark water. The lighter Blackwood symbolises the timber as it emerges from the water, getting a chance at a second life.
“The geometric shapes incorporated into the piece add a simple complexity to the design. Each of the shapes represents as a cross section of a tree in the lake, as if it were to be sawn off at water level.
“The seven drawers are made from Hydrowood Celery Top Pine, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints. LED lighting illuminates various details when the drawers are opened and internal voice recordings further describe the piece and the unique timber it’s made from.”
